PEOPLE
OF THE SUN

Frequently Asked Questions

What is People of the Sun?

People of the Sun is a three-day Indigenous-led gathering taking place June 2–4, 2026, at Standing Rock Nation. The experience brings together tribal leaders, climate advocates, artists, organizers, and partners to reflect, learn, and celebrate Indigenous leadership in climate and energy solutions.

Why is People of the Sun happening now?

People of the Sun marks ten years since the NoDAPL movement and focuses on what came next. In the decade since Standing Rock, Indigenous communities have been building real solutions, from renewable energy and workforce training to food sovereignty and climate resilience. This gathering honors that journey and looks toward the future being built today.

Who is People of the Sun for?

People of the Sun welcomes:

  • Tribal leaders and community members
  • Climate and environmental justice advocates
  • Philanthropic and corporate partners
  • Artists, storytellers, and cultural leaders
  • Allies committed to respectful, community-led solutions

Whether you come to listen, learn, celebrate, or support, there is a place for you.

What happens over the three days?

Each day has a different focus:

  • Day One: Invitation-only VIP experience centered on reflection, land, and community projects at Standing Rock
  • Day Two: Day Two: Summit day with keynotes, panels, conversations, and the People of the Sun Honors
  • Day Three: Public cultural experience featuring music, art, vendors, and creative expression

Each day can stand on its own, or be experienced together as a full journey.

Do I need to attend all three days?

No. Attendees may participate in one day or multiple days, depending on their interests and ticket type.

What are the People of the Sun Honors?

The People of the Sun Honors recognize tribal nations, leaders, innovators, and partners advancing energy sovereignty and Indigenous-led climate solutions. Honors are presented during the Summit on Day Two.

Can I nominate someone for an honor?

Yes. Nominations are open to tribal members, community leaders, organizations, partners, and individuals. Self-nominations are also welcome. Details and deadlines are available on the Honors page.

Is this a protest or political event?

No. While People of the Sun honors the history of resistance at Standing Rock, the gathering is focused on solutions, leadership, and community-driven action. It is a space for dialogue, learning, and building what comes next.

How does People of the Sun relate to climate change?

Indigenous communities are on the frontlines of climate change and are also leading some of the most effective solutions. People of the Sun centers Indigenous leadership, energy sovereignty, and land-based knowledge as essential to addressing the climate crisis.

Who is organizing People of the Sun?
